Entertaining Reads: Katie Brown Celebrates + A Giveaway!

I am so excited for today's post! I'm unveiling a brand new series on Tastefully Entertaining entitled Entertaining Reads. I will be keeping an eye out for new entertaining books so I can recommend them to you as part of this series. But not only am I launching this fun new feature, I also get to giveaway copies of today's book! Thanks so much to the Hachette Book Group for generously providing copies of Katie Brown Celebrates for 5 lucky readers!

The moment I received my copy of Katie Brown Celebrates I was extremely excited to peak inside. Katie Brown is well known in the world of entertaining - a show on PBS, a column in The New York Times, several other books as well as being featured in many national magazines are just a few of her claims to fame. This most recent book, however, is a must read for anyone interested in entertaining. Filled with inspiration for hosting parties for every time of year, this book shines through easy table setting and decor ideas (materials list and instructions are included), appetizing recipes that don't require a pantry full of ingredients and simple but creative concepts for enjoyable events. Within just the first few pages, she features a New Year's party with a stunning and unique DIY centerpiece and an ingeniously easy and adorable favor idea, both of which I cannot wait to try out. And that is just the beginning of 12 party concepts, each meticulously planned out with invitation ideas, decor inspiration, craft guides, favors, party games, recipes and more. Trust me, this is a book you won't want to miss!

To purchase Katie Brown Celebrates head over to Amazon. They have copies in stock now for $19.80 (plus it qualifies for free super saver shipping!)

Morning! The best wedding I have ever attended...well I have yet to attend! I feel the weddings I have been too have been so boring and nothing out of the ordinary! Of course I am still young (25) and havent been to too many weddings...but I hope my wedding someday with a photo booth, candy buffet and an amazing meal of comfort foods will be the best!

Hi Rebecca! the best wedding I ever attended (besides my own, of course) was a swanky autumn affair in an old church. The aisles were covered with strewn leaves and flowers and the stage was full of thousands of flowers, like you were taking a walk on a fall day in a neighborhood were everybody had gorgeous plantings. The reception was at a ranch/resort where they gave us a signature drink as soon as we stepped off the bus. The tables were covered in silk and the tents (it was outdoors) were sort of a morroccan style with crystal chandeliers inside each one (there were probably 15 of them). There was face painting for the kids, live horses that you could pet while you waited for the reception to start, and the gorgeous sunset happened just before the dancing began. There were candles and lights and luxury everywhere, and every detail was thought of. For example, after the amazing dinner and cake, there were "midnight snacks" served by the staff to ease your hunger during dancing - mini roast beef sandwiches and other yummy things. I could (obviously) go on and on, but it was quite a special evening and a good memory. (Granted, a pretty penny was spent on it, too!)

well, i am going to have to say that the best wedding would have to be my own! :) It was so nice to see things come together that i worked on even though i struggled to get it all done while working full-time, and attending grad school--oh and that damn car accident two weeks before my wedding! It was a perfect day regardless!!!

I once attended an AWESOME halloween party thrown by a local artist. I mention that he was an artist because the house was transformed by his fellow artist friends and students and the creativity and inspiration that went into it was unreal - it came complete with full haunted house in the basement! Plus, the costumes were INCREDIBLE!!

I absolutely loved my sister's bridal shower/bachelorette party. We had a wonderful time planning it & everyone had a great time - all the way from the grandmas to the jr. bridesmaid!

I have no Facebook account for a second entry, but I do have your site as a favorite on my blog!

My favorite parties are the ones my mom has at her house with just some neighbors or friends. She always has great food and presentation. Plus, she is hilarious and can keep a party going all night!

how super generous of you! The book looks wonderful. I am going to sound conceited and say the best wedding I ever attended was mine. It came off perfectly and was a perfect blend of traditional and SUPER FUN and was all totally us! It was also a ton of work and we did a lot ourselves, So I was pretty proud of how it turned out, on top of it being my happiest day ever!

The best wedding so far was my own. Mainly because I got to plan it and have it be the way I wanted it. But I haven't been to many wedding either so maybe I'll get to attend one that just takes my breath away.

My favorite wedding was actually my dad and step-mom's. I was 9 at the time and I just remember feeling so grown up when I got my hair and makeup done at the salon to be the flower girl with my sister. I also remember having so much fun dancing at the reception-- not to mention that it was a destination wedding in Mexico-- and how romantic I thought it all was when my dad and new step-mom were whisked away in a horse and carriage. i hate to sound self-centered, but the best wedding i've ever been to was my own. there were some little things that i wish i had done differently, but overall it was exactly what i wanted. we kept the focus on our friends and family and really thought about what they would enjoy. it was an unforgetable party and we still get compliments on it 2 years later.

SO excited for the new book, looks lovely! Besides my own wedding :), the best wedding i have ever attended was definitely my brother's ... it was a small, intimate affair at a vineyard in Napa, the event was so filled with details that really remind me of who my brother and now sister-in-law are and what they love and it made all the guests feel included in their lives! from modern touches, to great wine and monograms everyone - you really got a sense of who they are. such good memories!

The best party I have been to has to be my best friend Jennifer's housewarming party. Her and her new husband just moved into the house of their dreams out in the country. Every room was so beautifully decorated. Jennifer is an amazing hostess and thought of every last detail to make her guests comfortable and spoiled for the evening. Food was catered, she brought in a few casino dealers and made it a glitzy Las Vegas theme so all the guests came dressed in their finest - some men even wore tux's!

I loved our wedding! It was a weekend long time spent with our immediate families and closest friends away from normal distractions. For me, the best parties are all about quality time spent with people and we had that in abundance!

Not to toot my own horn, but I think the best event I've been to was a surprise baby shower we did for my son's 1st grade teacher. She was having her first baby, a girl, named after her mom who passed away recently. Another mom and I snuck a few kids away every day at recess for each child to decorate a onesie for the baby. We decorated the teacher's lounge, including hanging up all the onesies on a clothesline across one wall. The office called her away for an "errand", then we snuck all 23 kids down to the lounge. She was so surprised when she came down, mostly because she couldn't believe NO ONE spilled the beans! We even had another mom bake her a pie because she doesn't like cake. I have great pix of it over at my blog.

Can I say the best party I attended was an intimate gathering for poker? ;)

I think Erinn threw the best parties. She really had a knack for style and had every element accounted for. I think my favourite was the Christmas in July where we went ice skating, drank hot chocolate, exchanged ($5) gifts and sang carols. We all got a nice holiday mix CD, too. It wasn't done up in the finest linens, but it was a rad party!

My first bridal shower was so wonderful, really big group of people who truly love me and wanted to be there, great food and drinks, not the usual lame games, but fun little things that made the party so great!

I attended a beautiful fall wedding two years ago in Pennsylvania. I especially loved the chocolate brown decor and dresses, and the homemade caramel apples.

Thanks!

Just stumbled upon your blog! The best parties I have ever been to are hosted my an older cousin of mine. She has impeccable taste leaving no detail unattended to: coordinating napkins, delish food, little tags naming each dish, a wine bar, etc. Not nearly to be outdone though, by pictures of truly stunning parties & decor online, however.

i think the best wedding i've been to was that of a childhood friend and neighbor. it was held in a party barn that was so elegantly decorated. it looked like her parents had spent a fortune, but in reality she refused to buy anything wedding related that wasn't on sale or DIY. it was effortless and i could tell they had a great time.

The best wedding I have ever attended was my daughter's. Her brothers canoed her across the lake to the ceremony site (a family tradition). The reception included a fun photo booth with costumes and we had large jars filled with favorite family cookies. She said she wanted it to be the "best party of my life" and so I had a little label made to go in the hem of her dress with that saying on it and the date. Lots of special touches, good food, wine, music and it was the best party.

Best party... any one where we just hung out and did really silly things. Like when I graduated college we all went out for sushi and then got a really large sundae from Ben & Jerry's. Nothing like good friends and awesome dessert.

I love parties that throw in a bit of the unexpected. A friends wedding was awesome because the groom surprised her with a song and he could sing!!

The best wedding I actually attended was my own to my now ex husband. The wedding was a blast, the marriage, not so much!

We had a Sunday morning wedding in the fall. The colors were vibrant, the ceremony & reception took place in an old bank that was converted to a restaurant. The cherry wood decor coupled with the fall colored flowers were stunning to the eye. Our music was pleasing to everyone from seniors to younguns. The food, to die for & the fun lasted all day!!!

Thanks for the chance at the giveaway!

The best party I ever attended was one of my own - is that horrible to say? It was a few years back, based on a tv show - Alias. We had a blast. We had dinner on the roof of a business building - that was the highlight.

About Katie Brown...Love her! I have all her books and am thrilled that there is a new one out.
